About the Artisan

Glenn is a native of rural Luce County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. From an early age, Glenn came to appreciate and love nature’s unique splendor. After high school, Glenn joined the United States Air Force for eleven years until finally landing in central Illinois. He found the extremely flat lines of the landscape and enormous skies intriguing and visually diverse from his childhood home.
Glenn loves the complexity and the simplicity of natural forms whether it is the burl of a tree, line of a vegetable or the curve of a woman’s body. He loves to find the extrordinary in the ordinary items of every day life.
Defying the labeling of his work as a categorical titles such as Self taught, outsider art, Folk art, fine art, the work is undoubtable individually “his”. Not interested in traditional commercially accept methods of art sales, Glenn has found a home at the local Urbana Farmer’s Market as his way of selling his works each May through December.
Glenn uses the term “Artisan” rather than “Artist” as an artisan is a craftsman who practices a skill and trade to produce his product. Glenn doesn’t assign numbers to his works as limited editions, rather he believes his craft is continually evolving and he will not be the same person at 62 as he is at 42. As he continues to evolve, so will his work. Most days, you will find Glenn carrying his 8x10 field camera around the local fields/streams or wandering the trails at Busey Woods in Urbana. Although field sketches are still completed, most of his painting is completed in studio.
Note from Glenn
“I hope you enjoy my site, I want to extend a special thanks to my daughter Jordyn (age 12) for developing this site for my work and has “stuck” with me through this tedious process. Please stop by the Market to see me or my work any Saturday morning.”
